18 Months After Bowing Out, John Gregg Weighing Run For Governor

After losing the 2012 governor’s race to Mike Pence by a closer-than-expected three percentage points, former House Speaker John Gregg may be ready to mount another such campaign next year.

Gregg recently returned from a trip to Washington to meet with members of the Democratic Governors Association – a meeting which appears to have left him more open to running again than he was in 2013, when he declared himself out of the 2016 race.

It’s unclear whether Gregg could capture his party’s nomination again or whom the Republican nominee might be, with incumbent Governor Mike Pence weighing a possible run for the White House.

Gregg admits it’d be another uphill battle if he again had to face Pence.

Gregg’s campaign was slow to gain momentum in 2012 and was seen by some as too gimmicky, with the former House Speaker giving away pins shaped like his trademark handlebar mustache and airing a television ad where his sons poured water on him with a garden hose.
