WLFD purchasing more modern "Jaws of Life"

The West Lafayette Fire Department is updating the equipment it uses to cut people out of their vehicles after an accident.

Deputy Chief Tony Schutter says the current extrication tools aren’t able to cut through the new materials used to make cars.

He says purchasing more modern equipment is a matter of public safety.

The cost  is roughly $62,000.

Schutter says the department is purchasing three sets of the extrication tools, which should be delivered in four-to-six weeks.
