It looks unlikely the House will restore employment accommodations for pregnant workers that were stripped out in the Senate last week.

Senate Republicans gutted a bill Monday that would have required employers to reasonably accommodate pregnant employees’ needs.

A bill that would require businesses to provide “reasonable accommodations” for pregnant workers passed through committee Monday. After hours of arguments, the bill now moves to the full Senate.  

Health leaders are raising awareness about a new initiative to tackle Indiana's high infant and maternal mortality rates. The state launched a public awareness campaign this week. 

A number of measures to address Indiana’s high infant and maternal mortality rates were adopted during the past legislative session. The new laws, which took effect July 1, aim to drive down the rates. 

Gov. Eric Holcomb signed hate crimes legislation into law. Two anti-abortion bills are headed to the governor’s desk. And the Senate approved a measure allowing pregnant minors to make their own health care decisions.

Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute recently completed a study that examines the relationship between sexual activity and a woman’s immune system.

The preliminary findings could be good news for couples struggling to conceive.
