WLPD camp teaches kids to protect themselves

Nearly five-dozen area youth now have a better idea of how to protect themselves from harm.

The children learned techniques to deal with situations such as bullying, sexual abuse and abduction during the week-long radKIDS camp at the West Lafayette Police Department.

Sergeant Cindy Marion says knowing what to do in potentially dangerous situations does not come instinctively to young people.

She says they must be taught and practice the skills.

The radKIDS Camp is funded through grants and is free for participants.

It is a partnership of the West Lafayette, Lafayette, and Purdue police departments, Bauer Family Resources, and the Heartford House Child Advocacy Center.
