Oldest flying DC-3 on display at Purdue Airport

Members of the public are invited to tour the oldest Douglas DC-3 airplane still flying.

The Flagship Detroit DC-3 is on display at the Purdue Airport through tomorrow evening.

The aircraft was manufactured in 1937 and has been restored to its original condition.

The DC-3 is credited with making passenger air travel profitable.

It also flew successful Allied missions in World War II.

The "Flagship Detroit" has twin propeller gasoline engines.

It features the original American Airlines paint job with an orange lightning bolt and stripe design.

Tours are available until six o’clock tonight and from one to six tomorrow.

The plane was flown to West Lafayette by 1971 Purdue alum and pilot Tom Taff.
