Federal Funds help finance Frankfort road project

Frankfort is receiving another round of funding to improve one of its roadways.

The Federal Highway Administration is allocating more than $2.2-million for the city to make repairs to South Maish Road.

It’s the first project of Frankfort’s Complete Streets effort.  The goal is to develop a more integrated transportation network.

Construction is slated to start in early 2014.

The South Maish Road project will include upgrades for walking access and safer vehicle travel.

The city also received $1.3-million in federal funds for the roadway last year.   Federal money is paying for 80-percent of the project. Frankfort will pay for the rest which is about $900,000.
