The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead is a Historical Fiction following two slaves in 19th century America. These two characters follow the “underground railroad” to attain their freedom. The underground railroad in this fictionalized past not only includes secret routes and safe houses but also has a real railroad with a train underneath the soil. The novel has received a number of awards, including the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 2016 National Book Award for Fiction.
