Truitt tops Cornstuble in HD26 race

House District 26 voters are sticking with the incumbent.

Republican Randy Truitt defeated Democrat Rick Cornstuble in the district that includes parts of Lafayette, West Lafayette, and Tippecanoe County.

"It's humbling," said Truitt.  "It's a humbling deal. It'll be great to go back down and represent the district where I was born and raised and am now raising my family.  So, it's kind of a neat thing."

Truitt says he is going to introduce legislation next session that focuses on two areas.

I have a a large number of bills that I am working on, a couple big bills with Purdue University that (people) have already been texting tonight, as the results started to come in, to kick those back into gear," he said.  "  “I have some veterans bills that I am going to be working on.”

He is serving his third term in the General Assembly.

Truitt is vowing to work on making education reforms better and more efficient in the upcoming session.

He says the state’s election of Democrat Glenda Ritz as Superintendent of Public Instruction is a message.

He believes it was not a reflection on the actual reforms, but how they were implemented.
