This week on WBAA’s Ask The Mayor, we offer some helpful hints to budding entrepreneurs, including this one: If you want a city to give you a tax abatement, there are a few key words you can use to describe that investment you want to make.
Tell the city leaders you want to build a splash pad, a coworking space, a brewpub or a sports park and your chances increase significantly.
Then, of course, comes the hard part: delivering on the promise.
This week in our talk with Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes, we ask about a coworking space to which the city granted a tax abatement, but which doesn’t appear to have the necessary cash to get off the ground, despite three months of trying to raise it on a crowdfunding site.
And, speaking of redevelopment, we ask what the city needs from Frankfort Hospital, now that IU Health has taken over the facility.
