Congress on your Corner in Monticello & Frankfort

Congressman Todd Rokita (R-IN4) is holding constituent events Saturday in White and Clinton counties.

He says he will use the forums to talk about tax reform and the need continue the so-called Bush Era tax cuts for everyone. Those are set to expire at the end of this year.

"We're calling attention to the threat facing Hoosier businesses and families if Congress fails to extend all the current income tax rates. There's a tremendous amount of uncertainty because of the lack of the permanent nature of these tax cuts. These have been on our books for a decade now and they should be made permanent."

Rokita says making those permanent would create the certainty needed to stimulate workplace investments and job growth. He says action on those is needed sooner rather than later, and for everyone, not just lower income brackets.

"If we have the uncertainty, businesses aren't going to hire if they don't know how much they're going to have to pay to Uncle Sam, number one. Number two, businesses won't hire if they know they're going to have to pay more to Uncle Sam. If we don't extend these tax cuts, the jobs-creators of this country will be paying more.”

Rokita says keeping taxes low for all would generate more growth and income, so additional tax revenue would be produced. However, he says government spending does need to be brought under control.

The Congress on your Corner events Saturday at the White County Courthouse from noon - 1 p.m. and the Clinton County Courthouse from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Rokita also is holding a town hall meeting August 6th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in Hendricks County.
