State parks still ahead in revenue, attendance despite drought

The dry weather and related campfire bans in Indiana this summer have so far not affected state parks.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Phil Bloom says revenue and attendance is up compared to same time last year, partially due to warmer than normal temperatures in March and April.

He says the number of visitors have not fallen off as much as expected, even with drought conditions that have resulted in the closing of four beaches due to low water levels.

Bloom notes the lakes at those locations are still open for boating and other water-related activities.
