Tippecanoe Parks Department making it easier to access Wabash River

Nearly $50,000 will be used to improve access to the Wabash River in Tippecanoe County.

The county’s park board approved plans for a 300 foot long driveway at Davis Ferry Park and a 15,000 square foot parking lot to go with it.

Roughly 75% of the money will come from the department’s capital fund with the Parks and Recreation Foundation donating the remaining $15,000.

Parks Director Allen Nail says the hard surface is needed, because without it, cleaning up silt after the Wabash floods is not easy. He says no work is needed on the boat ramp itself, just access to it.

The county is waiting on the proper weather and river conditions to proceed, and is working with the state Department of Natural Resources on the project.
