Decorating storefront windows and flying the Purdue flag are two ways to support the Boilermaker football program. This year’s community spirit contest was announced Monday.
Pictures of window decorations by a business or individual will be posted on the Purdue Athletics’ Facebook page and the one with the most votes each week will win prizes.
Head Coach Danny Hope says the contest, as well as the pedestrian bridge walks and pep rallies, helps the team in the long-run.
"We have an opportunity this year to get our fan-base really onboard and for our fan-base to help set the tempo for the season. So, we have lots of opportunities for the fans and players to get involved, to establish a real love affair, if you will, between our football team and the people of Tippecanoe County."
Purdue football had a 7-6 season and Little Caesars Pizza Bowl victory last year. The opening game is September 1 against Eastern Kentucky.
Hope says getting as many people as possible to fly a Purdue flag on the Friday and Saturday of home games sends a clear message to the opposing team and its fans.
"That we're here to win. The fans are here to win. Every great team has a great fan-base, and every great fan-base wants a great team. This is the year we can make those things happen."
A meet and greet event with the players is set for August 25th at Ross-Ade Stadium.
