Richmond Group Artists and Overbeck Pottery Exhibition
Richmond Group Artists and Overbeck Pottery Exhibition
The Haan museum is featuring an exhibit by the Richmond Group artists, who formed Indiana's first art colony, established in 1870. This group was active 10 years before Hoosier Group artists traveled to Munich to study in 1880. The exhibition will include important paintings by John Bundy, Charles Conner, Maude Eggemeyer, Anna Newman, George Baker, and other artists important in the group and will also feature a nice variety of clay works by the Overbeck Sisters from nearby Cambridge City. Margaret, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Mary Frances Overbeck established Overbeck Pottery in their Cambridge City home in 1911 to produce high-quality handmade ceramics with motifs inspired by nature. The sisters operated their studio at a time when female roles were limited. This exhibit is included with regular admission to the museum.
Shaun Dingwerth, author of The Richmond Group Artists, will speak at a Lunch & Learn on March 21 (visit our website to register)
