The Triple-A Hoosier Motor Club says the coming holiday weekend will see the highest Independence Day weekend gas prices since 2008.

Spokesperson Greg Seiter says worldwide petroleum prices are being impacted by the current unrest in Iraq.

"Anytime there is unrest in the Middle East crude oil prices are adversely affected and that, of course, is then passed on to the consumer via gas prices," says Seiter. "A lot of speculation goes into what's going to take place, and with all of this unrest things are really out of balance right now."

Indiana gas prices are currently 21 cents higher than this time last year.

On average, Seiter says Americans can expect to pay upwards of 20-cents more per gallon than they did about a year ago.
