It’s fair to say Purdue President Mitch Daniels has gotten a mixed reaction to his proposal of buying online education purveyor Kaplan.

Conservative education pundits have claimed it’s a new front in the struggle to educate a Hoosier workforce that doesn’t have enough college degrees. But faculty point out they weren’t consulted about the decision and it could dilute Purdue’s brand of rigorous post-secondary schooling.

This month on WBAA’s Monthly Conversation with Mitch Daniels, we ask about an article he wrote calling for an end to what he called the “culture of committees” on college campuses – something Daniels say could allow more new ideas like the Kaplan deal to flourish.

We also ask about another article, in Time Magazine, where he urged community colleges across the country to do better – advice Indiana lawmakers have given Ivy Tech Community College about its lackluster graduation rate.
