IN unemployment rate declines in April

Indiana’s unemployment declined 0.2% in April. The Department of Workforce Development reports that was the largest one month decline in more than a year and happened even though there were fewer manufacturing and construction jobs available. Indiana’s unemployment is 8.5%, which is close to what it was in April, 2012.

The unemployment rate in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties fell in April – in most cases, more than a full point.

Tippecanoe experienced the greatest drop with 1.5% bringing it to 6.7%. The others are Carroll, Clinton, Montgomery and White counties, which all have rates under 7.6%.

Lafayette’s unemployment dropped nearly a point to 8.0%, and West Lafayette’s unemployment is now down to 4.4%.

  • Clinton Co:  7.6%,  down 1.2%
  • Fountain Co:  9.9%,  down 0.2%
  • Montgomery Co:  7.4%,  down 1.1%
  • Tippecanoe Co:  6.7%,  down 1.5%
  • Warren Co:  7.5%,  down 0.5%
  • White Co:  7.5%,  down 1.4%
