IN unemployment rate unchanged in March

Unemployment held steady at 8.7% in March for Indiana.

The Department of Workforce Development reports an increase in manufacturing jobs balanced a loss of about 11,000 private sector jobs during the month.

Tippecanoe and one other surrounding county saw a slight increase in unemployment for March. Clinton County’s rose a tenth to 8.8%, while Tippecanoe’s climbed 0.2 to 8.1%.

There was a significant decrease in unemployment in Fountain County, now at 10.1%, and Warren County with a rate of 8.8%. Benton, Carroll and White counties saw rates fall half a percent or less. It was unchanged in Montgomery County for march.

Lafayette’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.9%, while West Lafayette’s unemployment rose slightly to 5.7% for March.

  • Clinton Co:  8.8%,  up 0.1%
  • Fountain Co:  10.1%,  down 2.1%
  • Montgomery Co:  8.5%,  unchanged

  • Warren Co:  8.0%,  down 1.5%
  • White Co:  8.8%,  down 0.5%
