Purdue Trustees approve room & board rates, name changes

Most Purdue students who live in residence halls on the West Lafayette campus will pay more for room and board next year.

The weighted average increase for both is nearly 2%. The increase for just the meal plans is slightly more than 2%.

Only a handful of room options will not increase or decline. Those include First Street Towers, a single room with bath in Hawkins, and a double, two-room suite with bath at Windsor Hall.

The Purdue Board of Trustees approved the rate increases at its meeting Saturday morning.

Members also voted on a new name for the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine. It will now be known as the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dean Willie Reed says the name more accurately reflects the size and scope of the programs offered. He also says "college" is used by all but five of the 28 veterinary institutions in the United States.

Reed thinks the switch should end confusion about whether the unit is stand-alone or part of another academic entity on campus.
