An event this weekend aims to get more Hoosier students interested in science.
Purdue, Eli Lilly, and the Science Education Foundation of Indiana are sponsoring Celebrate Science Indiana for K-12 students as well as teachers.
Executive Director Robert Yost says the focus is on STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math.
"Throughout the day our hope is that attendees will be exposed to a variety of activities in those different areas so that they can understand what science is about in their everyday life and actually see how science is being applied at different industries, as well as at colleges and universities here in Indiana."
This is the second year for the event, which also features a series of teacher workshops offered by the NASA Ignite program.
Yost says the presentations feature something for everyone.
"We're going to have Dow Agro Sciences there and they'll be doing some activities that are focused on genetics, so we'll be able to see how genes are involved in things that we eat. We'll have Indiana robotics so we can see how engineering is involved in designing robots. So we have a variety of different activities throughout the day."
He hopes students will realize anyone can contribute to science. The event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Indiana state fairgrounds.
