Benton County elects new recorder, close vote in town council races

Republican Jane Turner will be Benton County’s new recorder.

She had a three-to-one margin of victory over Democrat Christine McPeters. Her election comes after narrowly defeating the current deputy recorder in the May Primary Election.

Also in Benton County, there will be three new members on the county council.

Republicans Bruce Buchanan, Jack Duncan, and Jack Steele won election. Incumbent Democrat George Patrick Scherer and Democrat Devon Fritz fell short in the race for the three at-large county council seats.

Only a handful of votes decided two races in Benton County.

For the Boswell Town Council, Republican Fred Lang won with 40% of the vote. The other seat goes to Republican Bud Haniford, who beat Democrat Barbara Ann Happ by five votes.

In Oxford, the two council seats are going to Rusty Hoaks, a Republican, and Independent Tagg Morris. Morris won just four votes more than David Freeman.
