Almost Home Humane Society In Search of New Funding

A local animal rescue and adoption shelter is looking for new sources of revenue.

The Almost Home Humane Society in Lafayette is running at a deficit of nearly $300,000.

Executive Director Michelle Warren says part of the reason is an increase in animal intake.

She says it costs the shelter more to house these pets and believes the economy is the primary factor for the recent spike.

Almost Home Humane Society took in more than 2,000 animals last year.

Warren says it’s the first year the shelter has seen an intake increase since 2006.

She says the organization is asking the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette to pay more for stray animal fees

Warren also says a number of new fundraisers are planned for this year, including a gala at Purdue.
