Ribbon cutting for new hazardous waste collection facility

Residents of Tippecanoe County now have a new facility to dispose of hazardous household waste.

Officials with the recently created Tippecanoe County Solid Waste Management District held a ribbon cutting for the collection facility this morning.

The District has partnered with Southside Landfill to operate the site on North 9th Street Road in Lafayette.

Commissioner Tom Murtaugh says the service is being offered for free to county residents.

He says the county’s Soil and Water Conservation District will help educate the public about recycling and hazardous waste disposal.

Murtaugh says that will include speaking at area schools and to non-profit groups.
