Conversation with Purdue's president for January

Purdue’s president says university officials are conducting a thorough review of emergency response procedures in light of the fatal shooting and stabbing that took place on campus last month.

Mitch Daniels says the initial examination of the events surrounding the death of Andrew Boldt indicate an excellent response from law enforcement.

He says for the most part the university’s text alert system worked as planned and the majority of students, faculty, and staff responded to the “shelter in place” order appropriately.

But Daniels says there is always room for improvement and lessons to be learned.

Daniels is also looking ahead to his second year as Purdue president, including the creation of two $500,000 Innovation Prizes and the extension of the tuition freeze for a third year.
