UPDATE (11:50 p.m., Sept. 16):

West Lafayette police have now arrested a 15-year old boy and charged him in connection with Sunday's shootings.

Because the accused is a minor, his name has not been released. He's been taken to the Tippecanoe County Juvenile Detention Center and booked on the following charges:

  • Aggravated battery
  • Battery resulting in serious bodily injury
  • Battery with a deadly weapon (2 counts)

UPDATE (3:50 p.m., Sept. 16):

West Lafayette police have released the names of the two people shot in the early morning hours of Sunday at a highrise apartment building. They are Treveontae Boyd, 18, and Yeriyah Taylor, 20.

WLPD officials say they are still investigating and have not released any information themselves about the alleged shooter.

Lt. Jonathan Eager declined to confirm to WBAA  a physical description of the shooter that had been released by Purdue police in the early hours of the investigation.

EARLIER:

Two men have been shot in an early morning incident in the pool area of one of West Lafayette's newest residences.

West Lafayette Police Lieutenant Jonathan Eager says the shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday on the top floor of the "Hub," an 11-story apartment complex that opened to renters -- many of them Purdue students -- last month.

Eager says the men were shot in the legs and are "college-aged," but he could not confirm whether they are enrolled at Purdue.

“We had no information to suggest that this was random and we don’t think that there’s another target," Eager says. "I think this was an isolated incident.”

The alleged shooter had not been captured or questioned by police as of noon Sunday. Eager says police have interviewed both victims and are still conducting other interviews. Eager says several people were in the vicinity when the shooting happened.
