Tippecanoe County looking at $900,000 shortfall

Tippecanoe County officials are in the process of putting together the 2013 budget.

Auditor Jennifer Weston says requests from department heads total more than $39-million.

She says that’s about $900,000 more than anticipated revenue.

The current proposal includes an additional $750,000 for employee raises, which will bring all salaries up to the fair market rate.

It does not include an increase in health care premiums.

Weston says savings from an on-site employee Wellness Center has helped to keep that cost flat.

The County Council will explore ways to generate revenue or make spending cuts at budget hearings September 11th and 12th.

A final version of the 2013 spending plan is scheduled to be adopted at the Council’s October 9th meeting.
