Wabash Township Trustee Files for Change of Venue in Residency Case

Wabash Township Trustee Jennifer Teising’s attorney filed for a change of venue late Sunday in the case over whether Teising drew her trustee’s salary while not a legal resident of the township. Teising was indicted in May on twenty counts of theft.

In the filing, Teising's attorney argues that the trustee would not receive a fair trial in Tippecanoe or any surrounding counties, citing “inflamed” passions due to pretrial publicity and the over 80 news stories about the case.

The filing also points to statements made by Wabash Township board members “rooting for the justice system to take her out of office” and a community petition for her to resign as evidence of local bias that would limit Teising’s ability to receive a fair trial.

It’s not clear when the change of venue request will be heard.
