Public Input Invited On Plan For Former Lafayette Golf Course

Wabash River Enhancement Corp.

Tuesday evening will provide the first of two opportunities for Greater Lafayette residents to see and comment on a revised plan for recreational and economic development of the former Lafayette Municipal Golf Course.

The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation hired a consultant to update the land use plan after repeated flooding prompted the city in 2013 to close the course. It was replaced by the Battle Ground Golf Club which developer John Scheumann donated to the Lafayette parks board.

The revised plan maps out uses for the land bounded by Sagamore Parkway on the north, Harrison Bridge on south, North Ninth Street on the east and North River Road in West Lafayette.

The first public open house will be Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Public Library at 627 South St. in downtown Lafayette.

The second open house is scheduled for November 16, and will kick off a three-day public planning workshop designed to generate recommendations for the green space.

WREC Executive Director Stanton Lambert  says the public recommendations will be incorporated into a final plan that will be reviewed and approved by the community and the WREC board.
