Fountain-Warren County Health Dept. Announces Two COVID-19 Deaths

Fountain-Warren County Health Department

The Fountain-Warren County Health Department announced Tuesday two Warren County residents had died from COVID-19.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported two confirmed cases in Warren County and one case in Fountain County as of Tuesday morning.

Fountain-Warren County Health Department Officer Dr. Sean Sharma says the deaths are a reminder the novel coronavirus can strike outside of more densely populated areas.

“It doesn’t matter where you live, how small of a town you live in -- both of these individuals were from rural parts of Warren County, Indiana, which is one of the least populated counties in the state,” Sharma says.

Sharma says the two residents, who were both males over the age of 60, were in high-risk groups for the virus. One individual died at an area hospital after his COVID-19 diagnosis, and the other at his home -- both on March 30.

Sharma says he estimates about 35 people have been tested for the novel coronavirus in Fountain and Warren counties.

“[Residents] should realize those numbers are reflective of limited testing capabilities, and it doesn’t mean that the disease is not here,” Sharma says.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced 2,159 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide Tuesday, and 49 deaths.
