Opportunities seen in trips to Asia

Two local cities are strengthening their international ties.

Frankfort and Lafayette are sending groups to Asia to further develop relationships there.

This weekend, three high school students will represent Lafayette in its sister city in Ota, Japan.

They are traveling as part of an exchange program through the Lafayette Mayor’s Youth Council and Leadership Lafayette.

The nine day trip will include stops at schools, meetings with government leaders, and sightseeing.

In August, students from Ota will come here to experience life in Lafayette.

Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes is in China this week.

He signed a letter creating a sister city in Lanxi City in the Zhejiang Province.

McBarnes says the agreement is to enhance business and learning opportunities between the two cities.

He is spending seven days in China as part of a delegation of 25 other state government, community, and business leaders
