Purdue’s men’s basketball team nabbed its first Big Ten road win with a 61-58 victory at Northwestern.

The Boilermakers were 0-5 in Big Ten road games prior to their game at Evanston.  Overall this season, Purdue had only one road triumph at Ohio U. on Dec. 17.

In the game’s final three minutes, the Boilermakers put together their surge with an 11-0 run.

It marked the first time this season Purdue (12-10, 5-6 in the Big Ten) won a game trailing at halftime.  Northwestern had a 29-25 lead the break.

The win by the Boilers also extended  a winning streak over the Wildcats with their eighth straight spanning back to 2014 at Mackey Arena.

Sasha Stefanovic, a sophomore from Crown Point, hit the game-winning three pointer with 3.1 seconds remaining.  It was a grand finish after tossing up several airballs in the game's first half.

Although he came off the bench for the first time this season, sophomore guard Eric Hunter Jr was still productive. He scored 13 points, which tied him for the team lead with sophomore forward Trevion Williams.  On the boards, Williams pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Freshman Miller Kopp scored a game-high with 15 points for Northwestern (6-15).

Purdue will return to Mackey Arena to host 18th ranked Iowa on February 5th.
