The Syrian civil war started as a peaceful protest in 2011, but it has now spiraled into a conflict that involves many nations and groups of fighters. It has claimed an estimated 400,000 lives and has sparked the worst refugee crisis in decades.

The new film “Hell On Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS” documents the war and its effects. Here & Now‘s Robin Young speaks with filmmaker Sebastian Junger (@sebastianjunger).
