As the new Coastal Reporter, Jesse Hardman will draw on 15 years of worldwide experience in radio, video and print journalism. As a radio reporter he has reported for NPR, BBC, and CBC, and for such familiar programs as Marketplace, This American Life, Latino USA, and Living on Earth. He served as a daily news reporter and news magazine producer for WBEZ in Chicago.

My name is Jerry Chen and I am a senior majoring in sociology in Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts. I work primarily under Greg Kostraba and write Public Service Announcements for local classes, activities, and leisure events of interest to WBAA listeners. One thing that my experience at WBAA has taught me is how to break down complex words into simple syllables and research proper pronunciation for uncommon names of people and organizations. This style of writing is very different from academic writing and will prove useful for work beyond radio. After I graduate, I would like to pursue a postgraduate education. The ability to write efficiently and with brevity will help me in both the application process, as well as in the graduate program I hope to ultimately attend.

I’m Jenny Jackson, a junior studying Public Relations and Strategic Communication and Purdue. At WBAA I work with the Development team, helping them manage their membership program by working in the database and assisting with the membership renewal process. I also help prepare the station for events and member drives. I wanted to work at WBAA because of my passion for news and information and working at WBAA has only made that passion stronger. WBAA has given me an inside glimpse of the NPR world and taught me to always pay attention to the details of what’s happening around you. When I graduate I hope to work for a nonprofit and I’m thankful that WBAA is helping me achieve this dream by providing me great encouragement and support while also giving me direct nonprofit experience.
