Funtastics Variety Show 1/20 Preview

The Delphi Opera House has an eclectic weekend of entertainment with the Funtastics Variety Show. Magician Bob Poynter emcees an old-fashioned variety show with regional artists including professional performers and up-and-coming talent. WBAA's John Clare spoke to Poynter and Thea Strand about the event.

Acts include Lafayette German Band; singer songwriters Nicky Kerr and Scott Greeson; Broadway performers Ryan and Becca Strand; the Hickey Family Irish dancers; Latin dancers Deborah Kull and Adam Berry; a comedy vignette performed by Jan McGill and Doug Davis; Pamela Adams sharing 1940s classics; Fred Koning singing Frank Sinatra; The Three Best Friends Quartet a cappella group; Charity Rankin singing Elvis Presley; and Music Director Paul Addison providing musical interludes.

John Nasukaluk Clare is comfortable behind a microphone, streaming video or playing violin. A former broadcaster for NPR, John has previously worked with Voice of America, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation and stations in Texas, Kansas, Nevada, California, and Pennsylvania. In 2005, Clare earned the Deems Taylor Award from ASCAP for radio broadcasting, citing his work on 20/20 Hearing. Having performed with famed tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, John has worked with the Mozart Festival Texas, Mid Texas Symphony, Nevada Chamber Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic and Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
