NIPSCO making improvements to Jasper Co. facility

Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) is taking strides to become more environmentally-friendly.

NIPSCO unveiled a project worth more than $75 million for equipment to reduce emissions from its plant in Wheatfield.

The contractor is Babcock and Wilcox Construction, based in North Carolina. Spokesman Ryan Cornell says the work will provide a boost for Indiana employment by creating up to 150 construction jobs.

NIPSCO will install units designed to decrease the amount of sulfur dioxide emitted by the plant. Work is set to begin later this year, and will continue on-and-off through 2015.

NIPSCO’s southern boundary includes Benton, White, Carroll, Cass and Clinton counties.
