State Budget Committee approves Purdue projects

The State Budget Committee is giving Purdue the go-ahead for several building and maintenance projects.

Seven projects were approved for the West Lafayette campus Wednesday.  They range from utility tunnel repairs to construction of two multi-million dollar facilities.

One of the larger projects is the nearly $40 million Vawter Field residence hall on Third Street between Russell Street and Jischke Drive.  The facility will house approximately 300 undergraduate upperclassmen and include a small restaurant and convenience store.

Committee members also approved the Center for Student Excellence and Leadership.  The $30 million building is designed to help retain students and help them succeed academically with space for studying and student organizations.  It will go up at the intersection of Third and Jischke Drive.

Other projects totaling more than a million dollars include renovations at Young and Meredith halls, and at the Brown Lab building.
