The Wabash College Board of Trustees has named a new president. Dr. Gregory Hess will become the 16th president of the Crawfordsville institution.

“I am honored and privileged to lead an institution that transforms gentlemen into everyday heroes,” Hess said upon accepting the position at the 900-student liberal arts college for men.

Hess is currently the Dean of the Faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Claremont McKenna College. He will begin his responsibilities on July 1. Current President Patrick White announced his resignation last May.

The San Francisco native earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California-Davis, and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics from The Johns Hopkins University.

Hess has held teaching positions at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Kansas, St. John’s College (Cambridge), the University of Cambridge, London Business School, and Oberlin College. He has previously worked as an economist for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, as a consultant for Honda Motors of North America, and as a member of the Ohio Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors. He has served as a visiting scholar for the Federal Reserve Banks of San Francisco, St. Louis, Cleveland, and Kansas City, the International Monetary Fund, and the Bank of Japan.
