A Tippecanoe School Corporation building will start expanding this summer. The work at Wea Ridge Elementary School will add eight classrooms and a multi-purpose room on the west side of the existing building.
There also will be work done to the existing building, including new security devices at the main entrance, switching two classrooms to house two kindergarten classes, and expanding the teachers’ lounge.
Construction is set to begin in June and cost about $5.5 million, although TSC officials say bids have come in lower than expected. Those should be awarded at the school board meeting May 8. The school building corporation already signed off on some financial matters related to the addition.
The new space should be ready for use in the 2014-2015 school year.
