MLB player's donation feeds Lafayette area's hungry

The Josh Lindblom Foundation is donating funds to provide food for needy families in greater Lafayette.

Lindblom is a Harrison High School graduate who currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Thanks to a successful fundraiser in Lafayette last month, his organization has given $20,000 to Food Finders Food Bank. The money will go toward the BackPack Programs in Tippecanoe County, which give children food at school to take home to their families.

Lindblom says the foundation wanted to get the word out about the program.

"We did some research when we started the foundation of trying to find something that we wanted to give back to and not a whole lot of people know about the program. There's only one school in Tippecanoe County that's not involved in it."

He says it’s difficult to understand how hunger impacts Lafayette without experiencing it firsthand.

"That's what we had to do... We had to actually be involved in the program and see what it was and... Just seeing how happy those kids were on Thursday and Friday to come get the backpacks... It really is an eye-opening experience."

He says his charity plans to raise more funds for this and other programs in greater Lafayette.
