Educators at seven area schools are receiving grants to improve science teaching.

Evonik is giving out eleven awards totaling $10,000 to prepare students for jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The money is from the company’s Partners In Education program, also known as PIE.

Since the effort began 17 years ago, more $300,000 have helped fund nearly 350-projects.

Evonik focuses on specialty chemicals and employs about 650-people at its Lafayette laboratory.

Teachers at Burnett, Happy Hollow, Dayton and Battle Ground Elementaries,  Saint James Lutheran, as well as Harrison and West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School are among those receiving funding.
