Lafayette unveils "Free Wi-Fi on Main Street" project

The city of Lafayette is expanding access to outdoor internet downtown.

The “Free Wi-Fi on Main Street” project is a public-private partnership between the city and Wintek Corporation.

Lafayette is providing $14,000 for the equipment, and Wintek is providing the Internet connection.

City Information Technology Director Andy Milam says there are five access points along Main Street from Riehle Plaza to 10th Street.

He says the system can handle about 30 users per access point.

Milam says the city will add to that capacity in the future.
