Tippecanoe County officials are mourning the death of an elected official.
Coroner Martin Avolt was killed in a one-car crash yesterday morning while visiting family in Florida.
He was 70 years old.
Avolt spent nearly 20 years as Tippecanoe County’s elected coroner.
He was on November’s ballot running unopposed.
Avolt’s wife, Donna, is currently deputy coroner.
It is expected she will take over her husband’s duties until a caucus is held to determine his replacement.
