Commissioners deny rezone request for dog grooming business

A request by a Tippecanoe County resident to rezone her property to allow her to run a dog grooming business out of her home has been denied.

Dianna Hilderbrand lives on north County Road 250 West near Morehouse Road.

Several neighbors opposed her petition for the rezone because she planned to ask for a special exception to also allow boarding of animals.

Hilderbrand says she was planning a small-scale kennel, but would not have pursued the idea if she had known it would upset her neighbors.

Commissioners voted two to one to deny the rezone. The Area Plan Commission recommended denial of the request when it met in February.

Hilderbrand may still be allowed to operate the dog grooming business. County Building Commissioner Ken Brown says such a business is allowed under the current zoning and he would approve a request to do so.
