WL seeking input on Happy Hollow Road project

Design work for the reconstruction of Happy Hollow Road is entering the final stages and West Lafayette officials want public input before completing the plans.

Public Works director Dave Buck says there will be very little change to the road's current footprint. However, he calls the scope of the project significant:

  • Fitting the road in the existing right-of-way
  • Collecting storm water by putting in curbs and new storm water pipes
  • Improving the intersection of Happy Hollow and River roads
  • Making room for a trail on the west side of the road
  • Providing bike and pedestrian connectivity to Happy Hollow Park

Buck says construction should begin in about a year and take one year to complete.
During the work, Happy Hollow Road will be a one way, southbound, because of the lack of space for construction crews.

“We’ve talked with emergency response and City Bus, and they’re in favor of it being southbound during construction.”

An information session about the project is Tuesday 5 p.m. in Covenant Church on Knox Drive. Documents and related material will be on the city’s website later this week.

“We’re about 75% complete,” Buck says. “That’s one of the reasons why we want to meet with the property owners and folks who will be impacted by it.”
