TCPL planning for repairs to downtown branch

The board of the Tippecanoe County Public Library is moving forward with plans for repairs at the downtown Lafayette branch.

Members last week approved a one-year bond that will generate $360,000 to pay for the project.

The bond was approved by the county council this morning.

Board president Brandon Hawkins says work will include repairs to the roof, replacement of some interior lighting, repaving the parking lot, and repairs to the building’s limestone columns.

He says there is also talk of building a new branch near Wyandotte Elementary School on the east side of the county.

But he says the board does not want to make any definite plans until it knows operating funds for a new acility are in place.

The total 2014 budget for the library system is a little more than $5-million.

Even though that is an increase of about $100,000 from this year, Hawkins says the property tax rate is not expected to change significantly.
