LPD determines threat to area schools "not credible"

Lafayette police are working with the Crisis Center to identify a caller who made a threat against area schools.

Authorities say the call came in around 1:20 this afternoon.

They say a man told the Crisis Center volunteer he was near a school with a weapon, and was going inside with the intent to harm people.

Lafayette Police Dispatch Center then sent officers to schools throughout Lafayette, used the Nixle message service to advise of the threat and advised the West Lafayette Police and Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department of the threat.

Authorities investigated and determined that the threat was not credible.

The lockdown lasted roughly 90 minutes.

Lafayette, West Lafayette, and Tippecanoe School corporations, along with many area private schools complied with the request.
