WL Redevelopment Commission assisting with plans for new hotel, engine testing lab

The West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission is clearing the way for two major projects.

Members have approved starting the process to purchase land in Wabash Landing for roughly one-million dollars.

Plans call for demolishing retail space along the east side of the pedestrian mall and replacing it with a six-story extended-stay Residence Inn.

Sheehan Property Management is the current owner.

President James Curtis is hopeful another hotel in Wabash Landing will help attract more retailers to empty storefronts.

The Redevelopment Commission will also be purchasing property on Yeager Road north of Kalberer Road in the Purdue Research Park for an estimated $875,000 dollars.

The site will become home to an Automotive Robotics Proving Labs engine testing and development facility.

The company is expected to bring 30 full-time jobs to the area.

The Redevelopment Commission purchases the land for the projects, then sells it to the companies for $1 as an incentive for them to locate in West Lafayette.
