WL considers increase to trash rates

Trash fees in West Lafayette have been the same for 20 years.

Now the city is looking to adjust the rate to keep up with inflation.

Councilor Eddie VanBoegart believes an increase of between four and five-dollars a month is needed.

Most city residents pay $9 a month for trash services.

Some get a discount because of their income level.

VanBoegart does not expect the council to take immediate action, but says he would like to see the change as part of the 2013 budget.

The council voted to increase trash fees in 2010, but Mayor John Dennis vetoed the plan.
