Collections high at Tipp. Co. Solid Waste District

Officials are touting a new solid waste district in Tippecanoe County as a success.

The district board reports more than 35,000-pounds have been collected since operations started in March.

That is almost as much as the Wildcat Creek Solid Waste District collected in all of last year and in 2010.

Tippecanoe partnered with Clinton County to run Wildcat for 20-years, but that ended earlier this year.

Rick Parsons runs the new district.  He says it’s operating as expected, which benefits all residents.

Tippecanoe is paying Southside Landfill $400,000 over ten years for service in the new district.

The board agreed to take $225,000 in reserves it’s owed from Wildcat Creek to pay off some of that expense and lower its monthly payments.

Officials say that will help free up other funds.

It will have no effect on the tax rate residents pay for operating the district.
