After two years of construction, the City of Lafayette held the opening ceremony for the new Loeb Stadium on Wednesday.
Lafayette said farewell to the old Loeb Stadium in 2019 after nearly 80 years in operation.
At the dedication, Mayor Tony Roswarski said he has fond memories of playing in the old facility in the 1970s.
“This facility really has been an important part of my life, of my family’s life, and many many people that I know,” he said.
Roswarski said the $22-million stadium will be more than just a baseball field.
“We can play soccer, we can have concerts, we can have band nights, family movie nights,” he said. “The list is almost endless at this facility of what we can do.”
The stadium’s inaugural baseball game saw Jefferson High School face Central Catholic Jr.-Sr. High School.
